[SERIES] TRAGEDY AND TRIUMPH
January 3, 2018
It is staggering to think just how much of the gospel records are taken up with the final week of Jesus’ earthly life. Most ancient and modern biographies devote the bulk of their attention to the peak years of their subject’s life – their rise to fame or power and major accomplishments – but the gospels chart a different course and focus a disproportionate amount of their attention to the events leading up to and climaxing in the death and resurrection of Jesus.
For 30 weeks (beginning January 7th) we will be exploring Matthew 21-28. What we encounter in these final chapters is a combination of Tragedy and Triumph. We discover that Jesus is both the Suffering Servant and the Conquering King. We find that Jesus received both shouts of accusation and acclamation. Most significantly, we find that Jesus’ ministry is summed up in the tragedy and triumph of His death and resurrection.
